  • I Knew I Would Find You

    12.5"x27" 2016

This piece references back to my Appalachian trail through hike. The background is from a picture of the Franconian ridge, tied together with newer events in my life symbolised by the Meadow Lark found on the side of a highway in the panhandle of Texas.

  • 11"x11" 2016
Near the end of my stay in Salt Lake City, I had already felt the urge to move, realising that this city was not a good home for me. I had an offer to house sit at a property that overlooked the valley. It would provide a temporary escape to my life at a place with beautiful views. I looked forward to this staycation and brought art supplies to use the time wisely. The week that I house sat wildfires in the North West were burning out of control and smoke was carried all the way to Utah. The valley was filled with smoke and I did not get a single view. Any happiness I would gain from the beauty of the location was lost. I was stuck in a shadow.

  • Redemption

    8.25"x18" Oil on canvas, 2016

This bird was found walking the streets of Salt Lake City, and was photographed with no purpose in mind. This painting tells a more recent story of growth and looking forward, rather than memories. The constellation of Perseus appears behind the dove showing the origin of the Perseids meteor shower, an event that inspired me to move out of Utah, a positive change in my life.

  • Désolé

    Oil on canvas 8.25″x18″

This is a painting about regret. Désolé is french for “I’m sorry” The title is taken from a time period when I studied abroad in Lacoste france. I was young and squandered much of my time on french wine and not my studying. Another time, when driving home from Tybee island GA one afternoon I noticed something in the road. I realised too late that it was a turtle and it was in the path of my tire. I honor the turtle in this painting, rising above the lowcountry landscape, and a mention to my younger regrets. Events that I cannot change, events that I wish had happened differently, and events that ultimately led me to where I am now and to a place I can move forward using these regrets as a guidepost for how to live a better life.
